🌞 Gearing Up for Summer Surf Kayaking
By Bethan Moore – Ladies World Champion
Summer’s on the way, and with it comes the promise of some fun days out on the surf.
👕Switching Up for Summer
When the water warms up, I change what I wear to stay comfortable while surfing. I was lucky enough to win an NRS HydroSkin long sleeve top in a raffle at the Welsh Open Surf Competition—and it’s been brilliant. I liked it so much, I picked up the matching medium-length trousers. They’re quick-drying, super flexible, and keep me warm without restricting movement.
💨 Extra Protection
For a bit of added coverage, I use a Reed short-arm cag. I’ve had it for years—it's incredibly durable and has saved me money in the long run. The only maintenance it’s needed was a quick seal replacement on the neck and arms, which Reed handled swiftly and efficiently.
🛟 Safety First
I also rely on a Peak UK buoyancy aid and a Sweet Protection Strutter helmet—both solid, reliable pieces of kit. To protect my ears, I use SurfEars plugs.
❄️ Winter Adjustments
In the colder months, I swap out the NRS kit for a full wetsuit to stay warmer, and add some open-palm mitts to keep my hands from freezing.
Since I’m out in the surf most weeks (when conditions allow), having reliable, hard-wearing, and safe equipment is essential—and everything I use has held up really well.
See you out on the waves -
Happy Surf Kayaking!
